Breeze Through Airport Security This Summer
YVR and CATSA Offer Tips for Summer Travellers
Richmond, BC - June 20, 2008 - As millions of travellers prepare for their summer getaway, the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) urges air travellers to think security before packing their bags and heading to the airport.
"Travellers can actively improve the pre-board screening process by being prepared," stated Yves Duguay, Vice President of Operations at CATSA. "This is why CATSA is reminding them of the simple steps to help everyone get through the security process as fast and stress-free as possible."
During the busy summer travel season from early June to late August, YVR will expect to see more than 70,000 passengers go through the airport on peak days. August is the busiest month at YVR, with close to 900 take-offs and landings expected every day. Typically, passenger traffic reaches a high in the third week of August from an increase in charter aircraft, student traffic and cruise ship passengers.
"While YVR Customer Care staff and business partners are doing everything possible to help get passengers through the airport safely and efficiently, there are things they can do to help make their trip go smoothly," said Nancy Baggio, Director of Operations, Vancouver Airport Authority. "We encourage passengers to take a few minutes to prepare before they come to the airport. With restrictions on taking liquids and gels through security still in place, knowing the rules will help people save time at the airport, and get summer travels off to a great start."
