OTTAWA -- The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointments of
Ms. Hélène Grand-Maître, Mr. Eric D. MacKenzie, Mr. Daniel J. MacLeod
and Mr. Robert Tennant to the board of directors of the National Capital Commission.
"I am pleased to announce the appointments of Ms. Grand-Maître, Mr. MacKenzie,
Mr. MacLeod and Mr. Tennant," said Minister Cannon. "Their combined experience
will be a great asset to the NCC's board of directors."
Ms. Hélène Grand-Maître, of Gatineau, Quebec, currently serves as vice-provost,
administration and resources, of l'Université du Québec en Outaouais. She holds
bachelor's and master's degrees in science in the field of kinanthropology from
the University of Ottawa. Ms. Grand-Maître also holds a master's in public
administration from the École nationale d'administration publique à Hull. She
has extensive experience serving the city of Gatineau for nearly 30 years in
various roles in the Leisure and Cultural Services section, including assistant
for sports; chief, programmes division; and director. Ms. Grand-Maître worked as
director, professional development and employment services at La Cité Collégiale
in Ottawa. She has been appointed to the board of directors for four years. Her
appointment is effective April 1, 2007.
Mr. Eric D. MacKenzie, of Fredericton, New Brunswick, began his career with the
Regular Armed Forces (Navy) in 1956. He served in the Far East on light cruiser
HMCS Ontario, and in the Reserve Armed Forces at HMCS Cornwallis and HMCS
Stadacona. From 1962 until 1998, Mr. MacKenzie taught mathematics at senior high
schools in Fredericton and St. Andrew's, in New Brunswick and at CFB Bagotville,
Quebec, and also served as director of the New Brunswick Teachers Federation,
and as president of the Fredericton Direct Charge Co-op. From 1999 until 2003,
Mr. MacKenzie served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick.
During his time in the legislature, he was elected caucus liaison in the
establishment of a provincial capital commission in New Brunswick. He has been
appointed to the board of directors for three years.
Mr. Daniel J. MacLeod, of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, is currently the chair of
the New Glasgow Police Commission, regional chair for Nova Scotia Solid Waste
Management, a member of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board and a veteran New
Glasgow town councillor. He also serves as member of the Pictou District
Planning Commission and the New Glasgow Recreation Committee. Mr. MacLeod is the
former president of the Canadian Association of Police Boards, member of the
Solicitor General Task force on Police Services and has served as New Glasgow's
deputy mayor. He has also served as chair of the 1999 Canadian Girls Softball
Championships and chair of the 1997 Air Canada Cup national hockey tournament.
Mr. MacLeod is a former chair of the New Glasgow Recreation Commission and
Pictou County Solid Waste as well as former board member with the Aberdeen
Hospital Commission, the Pictou District School Board and the honourary chair of
Pictou County Make A Wish Foundation. From 1984 until 1989, he held the post of
sales manager, Curtis Industries, and from 1989 until his retirement in 2005,
Mr. MacLeod was branch manager, Westburne/Wolseley, New Glasgow. Mr. MacLeod was
a recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal. He has been appointed to the board of
directors for three years.
Mr. Robert Tennant, of Ottawa, Ontario, is a member of the Canadian Institute of
Planners, and is a registered professional planner. He holds a bachelor of arts
from McGill University and a master's of planning from the University of
Toronto. In 2001, he was co-chair of the national conference of the Canadian
Institute of Planners. Since 1992, Mr. Tennant has been a partner with FoTenn
Consultants Inc., Ottawa. Mr. Tennant has over 30 years' experience in regional
and urban planning. He has worked for Royal Lepage, the Ontario Ministry of
Housing, Shenkman Corporation and the Creson Corporation, all in the area of
urban planning. He has also worked on projects involving Public Works and
Government Services Canada, the Ontario Realty Corporation, the Canada Lands
Company, the Region of Ottawa-Carleton and the Ottawa Economic Generator
Initiative. He has been appointed to the board of directors for three years.
The National Capital Commission (NCC) is a Crown corporation that was created by
Parliament in 1959 as the steward of federal lands and buildings in the National
Capital Region. The NCC mandate is to develop, conserve and improve the National
Capital Region to reflect its national significance as the seat of the
Government of Canada and to organize, sponsor and promote public activities and
events in the National Capital Region to enrich the cultural and social fabric
of Canada.
