OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport,
Infrastructure and Communities, today announced five appointments to the board
of directors of the Canada Post Corporation.
Mr. William H. Sheffield, Mr. Donald Woodley and Mr. Hassan Khosrowshahi will
join the board for a term of three years. Ms. Jennifer I. Considine and Mr.
Gavin Semple have been appointed for a term of one year.
"I am pleased that these individuals have agreed to serve on the board of the
Canada Post Corporation," said Minister Cannon. "Their combined experience in
sales, management and economy will be of great benefit to the board."
Canada Post Corporation is a Crown corporation and the seventh largest employer
in Canada. It serves approximately 31 million Canadians and more than one
million businesses and public institutions. Each working day, it delivers
approximately 37 million pieces of mail to more than 13 million addresses in
Canada.

BACKGROUNDER
MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE CANADA POST CORPORATION
Mr. William H. Sheffield holds a bachelor of science with honours in chemistry
from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, a masters degree in business
administration from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and has completed
an Advanced Management Program at INSEAD business school in France. Mr.
Sheffield has more than 20 years of senior management experience for major
manufacturers and marketers in the private sector. He was the executive vice
president of Abitibi Consolidated Inc., director of Velan Inc. and CEO of Sappi
Fine Paper. Mr. Sheffield is a former board member of the Canadian Institute of
Corporate Directors and the American National Association of Corporate
Directors, and is a current member of the Royal Group Technologies and Ontario
Power Generation.
Mr. Donald Woodley is currently president and CEO of Gennum Corporation as well
as the president of The Fifth Line Enterprise. Mr. Woodley has over 25 years of
experience in sales, marketing, management and IT, and was ranked 15th in the
"Top 30 Canada's IT Movers and Shakers" in Computing Canada Magazine in 2005. He
holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a
masters degree in business administration from the University of Western Ontario
(Richard Ivey School of Business). Mr. Woodley is a current board member of TELUS Corporation Inc, DataMirror Corporation, Sick Kids Hospital Foundation and
Richard Ivey School of Business.
Mr. Hassan Khosrowshahi is the founder of Future Shop Inc., a chain of consumer
electronic stores, and Inwest Group of Companies, a realty company. His career
in business management, marketing and real estate started with his family
business in 1961, Minoo Industrial Group, a major manufacturer and distributor
of food products, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. He is also chairman of Inwest
Group Companies and a member of the executive committee of the Business Council
of British Columbia and the board of trustees of the Fraser Institute. Mr.
Khosrowshahi holds a degree in law and economics from the University of Tehran
in Iran.
Ms. Jennifer I. Considine holds a bachelor of arts in economics from the
University of Calgary, a masters degree in economics from the University of
Chicago, doctoral studies at the University of Michigan and a Ph. D. in
economics from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. She currently serves as
senior lecturer at the University of Dundee, Centre for Energy, Petroleum and
Mineral Law Policy. For the past 10 years, Ms. Considine has held progressive
positions in the private sector as a consultant, economist and analyst for
companies such as Canadian Energy Research Institute and TransCanada Pipelines
Limited. She is currently a member of the International Association of Energy
Economists as well as a member of the editorial committees for Geopolitics of Energy and Energy Politics.
Mr. Gavin Semple is currently CEO of the Brandt Group of Companies, a
diversified manufacturing and industrial equipment distribution company. Mr.
Semple started working for the Brandt Group of Companies in 1972, first as a
sales representative, then as a sales manager, and finally as president, general
manager and part owner in 1976. Under his leadership, Brandt was awarded with
the Saskatchewan Business of the Year and Canada's 50 Best Managed Companies
awards. Mr. Semple currently co-chairs the Luther College Spirit Campaign and is
a former board member of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, the Prairie
Implement Manufacturers Association, and the Regina Economic Development
Authority.
