OTTAWA, June 29, 2006 - Beverley J. Oda, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women today launched a new interactive on-line space for Canada's museum professionals and volunteers. Called the Knowledge Exchange, the initiative promotes ongoing training for members of the museum community by means of effective, easy-to-use technology.
"Our heritage is unique and must be preserved," said Minister Oda. "Through the power of the Internet, we are helping heritage professionals acquire the skills required for creating, presenting, managing, and preserving our digital heritage, while lowering the costs involved."
Housed within the Canadian Heritage Information Network website, the Knowledge Exchange offers on-line courses on the creation, management, and preservation of digital content. It also supports communities of practice where participants can exchange ideas, documents, and references on tools that use the Web. In addition, the site offers access to museum experts through blogs and interviews on the Web.
