Thank you very much for inviting me here today.
More than ever before, Canada's work force requires people to be highly skilled and experienced.
The Government of Canada is committed to help youth develop the skills and acquire the work experience they need to enter the work force.
We understand how important it is to create a climate of opportunity for young people in our society-especially for those who are experiencing difficulty entering the labour market.
That is why I am pleased to announce $5,574,551in funding for 18 projects here in Alberta that are helping young people facing barriers to employment make a successful transition into the workplace or return to school.
These projects, which are expected to help more than 2,000 young people, are being funded through Human Resources and Skills Development Canada's Skills Link program, a component of the Youth Employment Strategy.
The Skills Link program helps youth facing barriers to employment acquire the skills, knowledge and work experience they need to participate in the job market.
One example of the Government of Canada's commitment to youth can be seen right here at Campbell College. A few moments ago, I had the chance to meet with some of the participants. It was great to see firsthand some of the things they are learning in this program.
Through client assessment, case management, group-based employability skills training and work experience opportunities, Campbell College is helping young people facing barriers to employment gain valuable skills and experience.
This project also falls within the local priorities identified in "Our Business Plan: Working for Canadians," an initiative that supports the increased participation of youth within this community.
This is just one example of what the Government of Canada is doing to help young people achieve their career goals and realize their full potential. All of the projects being announced today offer meaningful opportunities for young Canadians to learn, and to gain employability skills and work experience.
The federal government's commitment to improving opportunities for youth is part of an ongoing effort to build a strong, vibrant Canada for the 21st century.
The Government's strategy is to create a Canada where meaningful, long-term employment opportunities exist and the work force is trained to meet the requirements of modern businesses.
The Government of Canada is proud to work with organizations such as those being highlighted today, to ensure that our young people have the opportunity to play a meaningful role in society.
I would also like to thank the young people of Alberta, who are dedicated to improving their future.
I wish you every success. Thank you.
