"Massive Change In Action" Web Site Inspires Students

OTTAWA, May 9, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today launched "Massive Change In Action," an educational Web project designed to encourage young people to take action in their communities. The Web resource is housed on Canadian Heritage's Virtual Museum of Canada (VMC)."Our Government is committed to encouraging young people to become active in their communities. So I am pleased to support the Massive Change In Action project, which shares the same goal," said Minister Frulla.Massive Change In Action serves as an Internet complement to the Massive Change exhibit, which is at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) until May 29. Aimed at a general audience, the Web site includes specially developed tools for high school teachers and students. Students in Toronto high schools have begun using the online tools to design their own projects to help transform their communities. Their projects will be showcased at the AGO from May 18 until May 29. Selected results will also be featured on the VMC at www.MassiveChangeInAction.virtualmuseum.caThe Massive Change In Action Web site was developed collaboratively by the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN), Bruce Mau Design, and the Institute Without Boundaries.The Virtual Museum of Canada is a unique portal that presents the countless stories and treasures found in Canadian museums. The museum was created by the Department of Canadian Heritage in collaboration with other federal organizations, academic institutions, private businesses, and more than 1000 museums.
