National Seniors Council work priorities
The Minister of Labour and Seniors and the Minister of Health, based on recommendations from the National Seniors Council, determine the Council’s work priorities.
On October 6, 2022, Ministers directed the National Seniors Council to serve as an expert panel to examine measures to further support Canadians who wish to age in their own homes.
Objectives of the project
- Identify existing measures in Canada as well as international examples of policies and programs that help seniors age at home.
- Identify the reasons that prevent seniors from aging at home and assess the areas of greatest need to help identify domains of action.
- Identify and assess current and potential new measures that could address the areas of greatest need to support aging in place, taking into account the government fiscal constraints.
To examine these issues and prepare advice to Ministers, the National Seniors Council led activities such as:
- Research
- Convening experts, and
- Consulting with seniors, their caregivers, and representatives of organizations serving or advocating for seniors
