In her short documentary My 2020, which will be available free of charge on nfb.ca as of April 10, adventure filmmaker Sarah McNair-Landry travels from Nunavut to Idaho to create a fascinating travelogue, combining extreme sports and breathtaking Arctic landscapes.

Outdoors fanatic, kayaker, skier and climber Sarah McNair-Landry is known worldwide for her insatiable desire to explore Nunavut, “the territory you never finish discovering.” In April 2020, accompanied by her partner, Erik Boomer, and their spirited team of huskies, this Canadian artist and adventurer began recording a captivating cinematic travelogue, filled with images of magnificent Arctic landscapes. Trekking from Iqaluit to Idaho, with a pit-stop at an Ottawa hotel, the short documentary My 2020 is a meditation on isolation, freedom, the future of recreational tourism and the silent power of wide-open spaces.

About the filmmaker

Sarah McNair-Landry grew up in Nunavut, where she still lives with her dog team. In addition to being the youngest person to reach both the North and South Poles, she’s crossed the Greenland ice cap six times, traversed the Northwest Passage by kite-ski and travelled across Baffin Island on a 120-day dogsledding expedition. She has directed the NFB films Never Lose Sight and Taking Shape, as well as the experimental art film Gauge, the short A Baffin Vacation and several outdoor adventure films.
