In the heart of Montreal’s Quartier des Spectacles for the 2022 Journées de la culture . Announcing Inside the NFB’s Creative Universe, the first-ever public event at the Îlot Balmoral headquarters.

September 14, 2022 – Montreal – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)
The very first public event hosted by the NFB at its new Montreal headquarters in Îlot Balmoral, next to Place des Festivals, will take place Saturday, October 1, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as part of the Journées de la culture. In this space dedicated to creativity and sharing ideas, located in the heart of the downtown area, members of the public will have the opportunity to explore the NFB’s creative universe in the NFB Space and the Alanis Obomsawin Theatre, while enjoying a range of exclusive activities—including a rare opportunity to take a selfie with a real Oscar statuette! In keeping with the theme of this year’s Journées de la culture, “Haut et fort” (“loud and clear”), everyone is invited to come show their enthusiasm.

In the NFB Space
- Jean-François Lévesque, director of I, Barnabé, will be on hand to explain how an animated film is made, including a look at the sets for his short film.
- Visitors will be able to experience the virtual reality projects The Orchid and the Bee, by Frances Adair Mckenzie, and Biidaaban: First Light, by Lisa Jackson, Mathew Borrett, Jam3 and the NFB.
- The language of haptic vibrations as a tool that can contribute to storytelling, just as images and sound do, will be explored with the help of the research team for the OONDUUULAAAA project: co-creative directors Katherine Melançon and Jean-François Clermont, and creative technologist Pierre Thirion.
- Visitors will be able to view the set of Eva Cvijanović’s Hedgehog’s Home, where the protagonist of this animated short will be sleeping comfortably!
- Visitors will be able to take a picture with a real Oscar
- NFB films and merchandise will be on sale.
In the Alanis Obomsawin Theatre
- Documentary and animated films will be screened in this magnificent new state-of-the-art theatre. Each program runs 30 minutes, with both English and French screenings available.
