Health and wellness

We promote your health and wellness both in the workplace and in your personal life, and we make resources available to you and to your family members to help you maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Employee Assistance Program: our employees and their immediate family have free access to the Employee Assistance Program.

Informal Conflict Management Service Program: employees facing difficult situations in the workplace have free access to support and guidance to the Informal Conflict Management Service Program.

Flexible work hours: we provide various options for flexible hours (where operational requirements allow) depending on your needs.

Employee Recognition Program: we recognize the efforts and achievements of our employees through sector, departmental and government-wide awards, as well as activities marking service milestones.

Bilingualism: bilingualism is a fundamental value in Canada and within the federal public service. We have our own Centre of Expertise on official languages and our own language training, providing support, tools and action plans in order to create a work environment favourable to the use of both English and French.

Physical health: we encourage employees to organize on-site health and physical training activities. Some of the department's divisions have such facilities on site or nearby. We also offer a corporate rate to a fitness chain  popular across the country.

Community involvement: we support the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC) and we participate annually in Take Our Kids to Work Day.

Wages

Group insurance plans

Group insurance benefit plans for public service employees include health, dental, disability and life insurance coverage. Options vary according to employment status and professional group.

Retirement Plan

We offer a determinate payment pension plan according to employment status.

The government has entered into several agreements to transfer pension contributions from a number of Canadian employers.

Several types of leave

Annual leave: depending on your employment status and professional group , you will be eligible for 3 or 4 weeks of annual leave upon entering the public service and accumulate annual leave credits based on years of service to a maximum of 6 weeks.

Other paid leaves: sick leave is accumulated monthly and employees may have leave for family obligations, volunteering and other reasons.

Travel and relocation of public servants

Under certain conditions, we offer logistical and financial support to staff who have to travel or relocate as a requirement of their work.

Training and career development

We place a high priority on advancement, professional development and continuing education. Employees are encouraged to develop their abilities and acquire new skills to achieve their full potential.

Learning and training: we have a wide array of learning, training and development options, including taking a formal education program with reimbursement of eligible fees.
