After you apply
What happens after you apply
Your fingerprints and photo (biometrics)
Book your biometrics collection appointment as soon as you can to avoid processing delays. Find out how to give biometrics.
We process your transit visa application
After you send us your application, we’ll review it to make sure it’s complete and has all the documents needed.
If it’s incomplete, we won’t process it. We’ll return it to you.
If your application is complete, the visa office may ask you to:
- get a medical exam
- get a police certificate
- go for an interview
We’ll tell you what to do if you need to complete any of these steps.
We process most transit visa applications in a few weeks or less. Processing times depend on the visa office and if you need to complete any additional steps.
Change your contact information
Use the IRCC web form if you change your:
- address
- telephone number
- any other contact information
Approving or refusing your application
If your application is approved, the transit visa will be put in your passport.
If your application is refused, we’ll send you an explanation.
For more information on visa refusals, see our Help Centre.
