Become a designated learning institution
We work with the provinces and territories, as well as other stakeholders within Canada’s international education community, to make it possible for international students to study in Canada.
To be able to host international students, your school must be:
- accredited as a designated learning institution (DLI), and
- on the DLI list.
How to become accredited as a DLI
You need to work with your province or territory to become accredited as a DLI. Each province and territory has its own criteria for accrediting schools.
Contact your provincial or territorial authority to find out if you meet the requirements to become a DLI.
Your provincial or territorial ministry will contact us with your information once they’ve accredited your school to host international students.
How to be added to the DLI list
Once you’ve been accredited, we will then send you instructions to enrol in the DLI portal.
Once you enrol in the DLI portal, we will:
- create your school’s DLI number, and
- add your school to our DLI list.
We update the DLI list regularly.
