Get or confirm a nomination

Answer a few questions to find out how to get or confirm a nomination through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Express Entry process.

You have a nomination and an Express Entry profile

Follow these instructions to update your profile and accept your nomination.

1. Update your profile to add your nomination

You must show that you have a nomination in your Express Entry profile. To do this:

  1. After you sign in to your account, go to the application/profile details section.
  2. Under Nomination and selection, answer “yes” to confirm you have a nomination from a province or territory.
  3. Choose the province or territory that is nominating you from the drop-down menu. This menu will show up after you change the previous answer to “yes.”

2. Have your nomination confirmed

If a province or territory decides to nominate you, it must confirm your nomination electronically.

After you submit your profile, you must

The province or territory will use these to confirm your nomination with us.

Once it does, you’ll get a message in your account asking you to accept or reject the nomination. You’ll find the nomination message at the top of the application/profile details section.

3. Accept or reject your nomination

You have 30 calendar days to accept or reject the nomination. To do this, choose “accept” or “not accept” at the top of the application/profile details section.

  • If you accept your nomination

    1. The system will find that you meet the requirements for the PNP.
    2. You’ll get a letter (in PDF format) in your account that confirms your nomination.
    3. The province or territory will contact you directly and send you a paper copy of your nomination certificate.
    4. We’ll award you 600 additional points that will help you get invited to apply.

    Six hundred points is the maximum additional points you can get.

    • If you have additional points for a job offer or study in Canada, we’ll only add the 600 points for your nomination.
    • If you already have 600 additional points, you won’t get more points for a nomination. You can only get the 600 additional points once.
  • If you reject or ignore your nomination

    1. You won’t be eligible for the PNP unless another province or territory nominates you.
    2. You’ll stay in the Express Entry pool as long as you stay eligible for an Express Entry program.
    3. You may be invited to apply under another Express Entry program that you’re eligible for.

4. Get invited to apply for permanent residence

If you accept your nomination, we might invite you to apply for permanent residence. If we do, you’ll get a message in your account.

You have a nomination but you don’t have an Express Entry profile

Follow these instructions to create a profile and accept your nomination.

1. Create an Express Entry profile

Your first step is to create an account and an Express Entry profile.

If you’re eligible for at least 1 of the 3 Express Entry programs, we’ll place you into the pool of candidates.

When you create your profile, you must show that you have a nomination.

  1. In the application/profile details section under Nomination and selection, answer “yes” to confirm you have a nomination from a province or territory.
  2. Choose the province or territory that is nominating you from the drop-down menu. This menu will show up after you change the previous answer to “yes.”

You have an Express Entry profile but you don’t have a nomination

Follow these instructions to apply for a nomination and have your nomination confirmed.

1. Apply for a nomination

There are 2 ways you can get a nomination under a province or territory’s PNP program:

  • Apply to the province or territory directly

    To apply to a province or territory directly:

    1. Decide in which province or territory you want to live and work
    2. Visit the province or territory’s website to find the eligibility requirements for its PNP program
    3. If you meet the program’s requirements, apply under one of its streams
  • Update your profile to show your interest in the PNP

    Provinces and territories can search the pool of Express Entry profiles to find candidates to nominate.

    How to update your profile

    To be nominated by a province or territory, you must update your profile to show your interest.

    1. After you sign in to your account, go to the application/profile details section under Nomination and selection
    2. Choose either
      • the province or territory where you want to live and work
      • “all provinces and territories” if you want any province or territory to nominate you

    Provinces and territories will now be able to find you when they search for candidates to nominate.

    If a province or territory is interested in your profile
    1. It will send a “notification of interest” message to your account
      The message tells you to contact the province or territory to discuss your options. This message is not a nomination and does not guarantee you’ll be nominated.
    2. Review the province or territory’s PNP eligibility
      Visit the province or territory’s website to find the eligibility requirements for the province or territory’s PNP program.
    3. Apply to the province or territory if you want it to nominate you
      If you’re eligible for a province or territory’s PNP program and want the province or territory to nominate you, apply to one of its PNP streams.

You can get more than 1 notification of interest at a time, but you can only have 1 nomination at a time.

  • If you have a nomination offer in your account, but you want to be nominated by a different province or territory, you must reject the nomination. Click the “not accept” button in your account to do this.
  • After you reject the nomination, any other province or territory can send you a nomination.

If the province or territory withdraws your nomination

If the province or territory withdraws your nomination, you must follow the steps that apply to your situation. If you don’t, you could be found ineligible.
