Digital forms in the portal
Permanent residence applicants
You’ll fill out these digital forms for yourself (the principal applicant) and any family members 18 or older:
- Generic Application Form for Canada (IMM 0008)
- Schedule A – Background/Declaration (IMM 5669)
- Additional Family Information (IMM 5406)
- Supplementary Information – Your travels (IMM 5562), if it applies to you
If the principal applicant is a minor child (under 18 years old), their parent or legal guardian must sign the forms, consent and make the declaration on their behalf.
PR card or travel document applicants
You’ll fill out the Application for a Permanent Resident Card or Permanent Resident Travel Document (IMM 5444).
PDF forms
You and any family members coming with you to Canada must fill out the PDF forms according to the instruction guide for the immigration program you’re applying for.
The guide will help you fill out the forms correctly.
How to sign forms
Hand signature (also called a wet signature): Print and sign the form by hand.
E-signature (also called an electronic signature): Type your full name or check a box as indicated. These are only on digital forms inside the portal.
Digital signature: Insert on PDF forms. You can type your name or use DocuSign or secure signatures.
Check the instruction guide or document checklist if you’re not sure what signature a form needs.
Your signature (the principal applicant) is needed on the overall consent and declaration to complete the online application.
If we return an application
- Incomplete applications will be returned and flagged in the dashboard.
- You can re-submit the application after completing the missing information.
- Applications returned for other reasons (for example, the number of applications accepted is limited, or you aren’t eligible) will also be returned.
Create a profile for you and any dependants
When you start an application, we’ll ask you to fill out the My Profile section with your basic information first. This information will then automatically be added to your digital forms.
- You can edit your basic information by clicking the top right corner on My
Profile.
- Any digital forms will automatically be updated.
- You can’t edit basic information in the forms directly.
- You can create as many dependant profiles as you need.
Apply for an open work permit as a spouse or common-law partner
You may be eligible for an open work permit if you meet both of these requirements:
- You live in Canada with the person sponsoring you.
- You got an acknowledgement of receipt that says your permanent residence application is being processed.
You can’t apply for your open work permit in the Permanent Residence Portal. We’ll refuse your work permit application if you do.
You must apply for your work permit through your IRCC secure account. If you’re using a representative to apply, they’ll use the Authorized Paid Representatives Portal.
