Applying for a special or diplomatic passport

The fee for a Canadian special or diplomatic passport is C$225. An additional fee of C$90 per visa applies for processing a visa application. Certain foreign missions may require additional fees.

For clients from the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces:

• submit a posting message (the pre-screen message is not acceptable) and,
• if travelling on a diplomatic passport, submit a completed Department of National Defence Posting confirmation (PPTC 458) (PDF, 50.41KB).

 For clients from all other departments:

• When applying for a diplomatic passport, you must submit a Global Affairs Canada Posting Confirmation Form (PCF).
• When applying for a special passport, you must submit a letter signed by your department clearly stating:
  • the purpose of the trip,
  • the cities and countries that you will be visiting, and
  • the dates of travel.
