Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General Test (CELPIP-G)
Your test date: On or before March 31, 2014
To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:
2H or higher (3L, 3H, 4L, 4H, 5L, or 5H) in listening and speaking
If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.
If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact CELPIP.
If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.

Your test date: On or after April 1, 2014
To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:
4 or higher (up to 12) in listening and speaking
If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.
If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact CELPIP.
If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training
Your test date: On or before November 27, 2008
To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:
4.0 or higher in listening and speaking
If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.
If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact IELTS.
If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General Training
Your test date: On or after November 28, 2008
To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:
- Listening: 4.5 or higher
- Speaking: 4.0 or higher
If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.
If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact IELTS.
If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.

If you only have your IELTS academic results, find other language proof you can submit.
Pearson Test of English (PTE Core)
To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be
- 28 or higher in listening and
- 42 or higher in speaking
If your results are high enough, include a copy of your test results (even if they’re expired) with your citizenship application.
If you lost or need a copy of your results, contact the testing organization. If they can’t provide you with a copy of your results, you may need to complete a new test or find other language proof you can submit.
If your results are not high enough, find other language proof you can submit.
Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF)
Your test date: On or before June 30, 2012
To apply for Canadian citizenship, your results need to be:
Level 3 or higher (4, 5 or 6) in listening and speaking
