How to Get a Police Certificate - Rwanda
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.

How to get a Police Certificate
If you are a citizen of Rwanda
If you live in Rwanda:
You should apply in person to the National Public Prosecution Authority – Department of Criminal Record Clearance Certificate. You must bring:
- A copy of your identity card or its replacement for those who have lost it
- Two recent passport size photographs
- A copy of an employment letter, an employment contract or an employment card (for those wanting it for employment reasons)
- Applicable fees
If you live outside of Rwanda:
You should apply at your nearest Embassy of Rwanda. You must bring:
- A copy of a valid Rwandan passport
- A copy of a valid visa (for those living in countries within the East African Community (EAC) and Communauté économique de Pays de Grands Lacs (CEPGL)
- A residence permit
- Two recent passport size photographs
- Applicable fees
If you are not a citizen of Rwanda
If you live in Rwanda:
You should apply in person to the National Public Prosecution Authority – Department of Criminal Record Clearance Certificate. You must bring:
- A copy of your valid passport
- A copy of a Rwandan visa
- Two recent passport size photographs
- A copy of an employment letter, an employment contract or an employment card (for those wanting it for employment reasons)
- Applicable fees
If you live outside of Rwanda:
You should apply at your nearest Embassy of Rwanda. You must bring:
- A copy of a valid passport
- A copy of a valid visa (if you are a foreigner living in a country in which you are not a citizen)
- A document showing that you once lived in Rwanda
- Two recent passport size photographs
- Applicable fees
