How to get a police certificate – Libya
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.
Name of document you need
Certificate of Innocence (“Chahadet Baraa” in Arabic)
Police certificate and IRCC requirements
We’ll let you know if you need to provide a Libyan police certificate when you apply for
- permanent residence
- citizenship
- some temporary residence programs
See the document checklist or the visa office’s requirements for details.
How to apply
If you live in Libya
Apply in person at your local police station.
If you live outside of Libya
Certificates aren’t available for former residents. If you no longer live in Libya, you don’t need to provide a Libyan police certificate. If you’re asked for a police certificate from Libya, write, “I cannot provide a police certificate for the time I spent in Libya because certificates are not available to former residents.”
