How to Get a Police Certificate – Eritrea
If you need to give your fingerprints for a police certificate, this isn’t the same as giving your biometrics (fingerprints and photo) for an application.
Do I need to provide a Police Certificate with my Application for Permanent Residence? No. Citizenship and Immigration Canada will send you a letter requesting a police certificate after you send your Application for Permanent Residence. You must bring that letter when you apply for a Police Certificate.

How to get a Police Certificate:
If you are a citizen of Eritrea:
If you live in Eritrea:
You should apply in person to the Eritrea Police Headquarters (see Special notes and considerations for complete address). You must bring:
- Identity card or passport
- Must allow fingerprints to be taken
- Two passport size photographs
- Letter requesting the certificate from the Canadian High Commission
- Applicable fees
If you live outside of Eritrea:
You should designate a representative with power of attorney to make the application in Eritrea to the Eritrea Police Headquarters (see Special notes and considerations for complete address) or through the nearest Eritrean Embassy. You must bring:
- Copy of your Identity card
- Copy of your passport
- Full set of fingerprints
- Letter requesting the certificate from the Canadian High Commission
- Applicable fees

Police certificates are only available to foreign residents with a proper residence permit.
- Copy of your passport and copies of visas/permits showing period of legal residence in Eritrea

- Applicable fees

- Police certificates will not be issued to Eritrean citizens who cannot provide evidence that they have paid a state imposed tax which is placed on all Eritrean citizens, regardless of country of residence
