March 27, 2025
As of October 3, 2024, Start-up Visa (SUV) permanent resident applicants who have been deemed essential may be eligible for open work permits, instead of employer-specific permits, prior to obtaining permanent residence.
SUV work permit applications received before October 3, 2024, must be assessed using the previous instructions for employer-specific work permits. IRCC does not have the authority to assess an application under different criteria than what was requested in the application.
Revised instructions for officers issuing employer-specific work permits for SUV permanent resident applicants (A77) have been updated to advise that these applications do not require that the client submit a new letter of support from their Designated Entity or have a new Commitment Certificate.
