Program delivery update: The procedures regarding the withdrawal of citizenship applications – December 19, 2017
This section contains policy, procedures and guidance used by IRCC staff. It is posted on the department’s website as a courtesy to stakeholders.
The program delivery instructions have been updated to include changes to the acceptance of a client’s request to withdraw their citizenship application if misrepresentation is suspected and to provide clarification on who may assess the requests for any withdrawals of citizenship applications.
- Misrepresentation cases: In the event that a misrepresentation investigation is underway, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada may deny an applicant’s request to withdraw their application or hold it in abeyance until a formal decision has been made on their application.
- General rules for grant and proof withdrawals: All requests for withdrawal of a citizenship application should be reviewed and assessed by a level 2 decision maker or a citizenship supervisor.
- The updated “Request for Withdrawal of Citizenship Application” form [CIT 0027] is effective immediately.
