Stakeholders from British Columbia were invited to attend an in-person dialogue session to share their perspectives on the future of Canada’s immigration system.
Strengths identified in the current system included support for newcomers through settlement agencies, Canada’s international reputation and response to the Syrian and Ukrainians crises.
The complexity of the system was noted as a challenge, as well as the need for the system to meet regional needs.
The discussion also included focus on application processing times, affordable housing and matching the needs of the community and employers to immigration applications.
They also advised on the need to have fair and evidence based decision making and the need to continue to innovate.
