End of the registration of (s)-kinoprene pesticides

All pesticides used in Canada must be registered under the Pest Control Products Act. Pesticides are re-evaluated to ensure that they continue to meet health and environmental requirements. Re-evaluation may result in the revocation of a product or product uses. Health Canada may also request changes to a product's label, including risk mitigation measures, use sites and application methods.

(s)-kinoprene is an insect hormone equivalent used to control several pests on greenhouse ornamental crops. The re-evaluation decision for the active ingredient (s)-kinoprene was published on June 16, 2021.

Pesticides containing (s)-kinoprene are cancelled.

As of June 16, 2023:

The sale of pesticides containing (s)-kinoprene is prohibited.

As of June 16, 2024:

The use of pesticides containing (s)-kinoprene is prohibited.

Using unregistered pesticides is a violation of the Pest Control Products Act.
