2021-2022 Compliance monitoring project: Licensed natural health products sold for sexual enhancement
We verified the compliance of licensed natural health products sold for sexual enhancement on the Canadian market.

What we did
We bought 45 licensed products in stores across Canada and online. We tested them and reviewed their labels to verify that:
- the products did not contain unauthorized drug ingredients, such as prescription drugs or controlled substances
- their labels complied with the Natural Health Product Regulations and their terms of market authorization
What we found
We did not find any unauthorized prescription drugs or controlled substances in the products we tested.
We identified compliance issues on the labels of all 45 products. Not all the issues found posed the same risk to health.
The most common label issues involved missing or incorrect ingredients and other general product information (such as natural product number (NPN), expiry date, lot number).
What enforcement actions we took
We worked with the companies to resolve the issues we identified. We asked companies to recall or stop selling products that posed a risk to health.
One product was recalled from the market.
When necessary, we issued regulatory letters outlining the intended or immediate suspension of the product licence.
All issues have now been resolved.
