Registration decision statementFootnote 1 for Lecanicillium muscarium strain Ve6
Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA), under the authority of the Pest Control Products Act, is granting registration for the sale and use of Mycotal Technical Biological Insecticide and Mycotal Biological Insecticide, containing the technical grade active ingredient Lecanicillium muscarium strain Ve6, for suppression of whiteflies on greenhouse tomato.
This decision is consistent with the Proposed Registration Decision PRD2020-14, Lecanicillium muscarium strain Ve6 and Mycotal Biological Insecticide, which contains a detailed evaluation of the information submitted in support of this registration. The evaluation found that, under the approved conditions of use, the health and environmental risks and the value of the pest control products are acceptable. See Appendix I for a summary of comments received during the consultation process as well as Health Canada’s response to these comments.
Other information
The relevant test data on which the decision is based (as referenced in PRD2020-14, Lecanicillium muscarium strain Ve6 and Mycotal Biological Insecticide) are available for public inspection, upon application, in the PMRA’s Reading Room (located in Ottawa). For more information, please contact the PMRA’s Pest Management Information Service by phone (1-800-267-6315) or by e-mail (pmra.info-arla@hc-sc.gc.ca).

Appendix I Comments and responses
Comments inquiring about extrapolation to other crops
Comment
Two stakeholder groups inquired why only one crop/pest combination, whiteflies on greenhouse tomato, is being registered at this time. Both commenters noted that it may have been possible to support use of Mycotal Biological Insecticide on more greenhouse crops via rationales extrapolating from the accepted use. Both commenters further suggest that the PMRA provide recommendations to applicants regarding the maximum number of uses that could be supported by the same data package, and suggest that this would result in savings of time and effort for the PMRA, as several future user-requested minor use label expansion (URMULE) submissions would not be required.
PMRA response
The use pattern for a pesticide is proposed by the applicant. As the applicant for Mycotal Biological Insecticide proposed only the use on greenhouse tomatoes for whiteflies, this is the use pattern that was assessed by the PMRA.
The PMRA advises stakeholders to work with pesticide companies to encourage them to support additional uses on their labels. In this case, the PMRA recommends that stakeholders contact the registrant of Mycotal Biological Insecticide directly, and work together to submit applications to add further uses to the label.
