Instrument Choice Framework for the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act
As a result of the 2018 Government of Canada Regulatory Reviews, industry expressed a desire to better understand how the Consumer Product Safety Program (the Program) makes risk management decisions concerning consumer products. In response, Health Canada committed to making available to stakeholders its Instrument Choice Framework for the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (ICF).
The ICF describes the Program’s approach to decision-making when addressing consumer product risks and it sets out five principles that guide the Program in its efforts to mitigate risks and protect the health or safety of Canadians.
The ICF Summary provides a brief description of the Framework. This summary is geared towards communicating the principles associated with instrument choice to a broader audience.
