The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Mexico City, Mexico, for a bilateral visit from June 25 to 27.

“Canada and Mexico’s robust ties are governed by our shared commitment to combatting climate change, promoting North American economic competitiveness and building more equitable societies. As our two countries celebrate 80 years of diplomatic relations, I look forward to meeting with my counterparts in the incoming Mexican administration to explore how we can work together to deepen the relationship between Canada and Mexico and advance our two countries’ shared interests in North America.”

• 2024 marks 80 years of diplomatic relations between Canada and Mexico. The two countries share a vibrant relationship that is characterized by deep people-to-people ties, rich cultural connections and growing trade and investment.

• Through mechanisms such as the Canada-Mexico Partnership and the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement, Canada and Mexico collaborate closely on areas such as economic competitiveness, gender equality and environmental protection to develop a more prosperous, equitable and sustainable North America.

• Canada also works closely with Mexico to advance common interests through regional and international forums, including at the United Nations.
