Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant to attend 78th session of United Nations General Assembly

The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced today that the Honourable Robert Oliphant, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in New York City, New York, on September 17 and 18, 2023, to attend the 78th session of United Nations General Assembly.

Parliamentary Secretary Oliphant will meet with various UN member state partners, including from the Commonwealth and the Middle East, to engage on global priorities, including peace and security issues, inclusion and diversity, and climate change. Among his commitments will be his participation in the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group, a core group of Commonwealth foreign ministers, to advance Canadian goals in areas such as human rights.

He will also participate in meetings to discuss global cooperation to advance the Sustainable Development Goals, such as by using artificial intelligence and by addressing the public health and security threats of synthetic drugs.
