Backgrounder
Carmen Sorger (BA Hons [Journalism], Carleton University, 1989; MA [Comparative and International Politics], McGill University, 1996) joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1996 in the Global Issues Branch, where she worked on peacebuilding and human security, with a focus on children and armed conflict and women, peace and security. Ms. Sorger has also worked as a senior policy officer in the Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force; deputy director of the Middle East Relations Division; and director of the International Assistance Relations Division, where she co-created the multi-stakeholder Global Partnership Initiative on Effective Triangular Co-operation, worked on the development track during Canada’s G7 presidency in 2018 and served as Canada’s representative to the G20 Development Working Group. Most recently, Ms. Sorger held the position of director of the Caribbean Engagement Division.
