Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Kemi Badenoch, the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Business and Trade.
Marking the one-year of Russia’s full-scale illegal invasion of Ukraine, Minister Ng and Secretary Badenoch took a moment to reflect on the catastrophic effects the invasion has had on Ukraine, its neighbours, and people around the world, and reiterated their steadfast support.
During their call, Minister Ng reiterated Canada’s support for the United Kingdom joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). The minister highlighted the importance of including new members that are able to meet the CPTPP’s ambitious and high-standard commitments in order to create new trading opportunities for all parties. During their meeting, Minister Ng also discussed the upcoming women-focused Canada trade mission to the United Kingdom, in March, and noted that she is looking forward to meeting with Secretary Badenoch during that visit to advance Canada-United Kingdom cooperation on inclusive trade.
Minister Ng expressed her optimism in working with the United Kingdom to complete negotiations and expand trade opportunities for businesses on both sides of the Atlantic.
