Minister Ng meets with Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, met with Otunba Adeniyi Adebayo, Nigeria’s Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.

During the meeting, Minister Ng and Minister Adebayo reaffirmed ongoing efforts to finalize a foreign investment promotion and protection agreement that would help grow investments and businesses and strengthen people-to-people ties between Canada and Nigeria. These discussions underscored the increase in commercial activity as Canada and Nigeria work together to enhance market access and create a shared environment for businesses to thrive.

The meeting was also an opportunity for Minister Ng to express Canada’s commitment to strengthening its commercial relationship with Nigeria and the African continent through sustained dialogue and engagement. As Nigeria is Canada’s largest bilateral trading partner in Sub-Saharan Africa, Minister Ng highlighted Canada’s enthusiasm over the growth of our bilateral connections during 60 years of diplomatic relations.
