Minister Ng meets with U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai

Today, the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade, met with Katherine Tai, United States Trade Representative, on the margins of the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting in Paris, France.
Minister Ng and Ambassador Tai discussed opportunities to collaborate at the OECD, G7, G20 and WTO, and the importance of the multilateral trading system. They also discussed shared concerns, including the resiliency of international supply chains in the economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and taking action on forced labour, trade and health, and WTO reform.
Minister Ng reiterated her concerns about Buy America provisions, U.S. tariffs on Canadian softwood lumber and solar products, and the continued safe operation of Line 5. She highlighted the importance of keeping the longstanding and interconnected supply chains between Canada and the United States open and secure to support mutual economic prosperity and growth.
Minister Ng and Ambassador Tai reaffirmed their commitment to continue working closely together to advance the bilateral trade relationship in support of businesses, workers and communities in both countries.
