Canada and United States to co-host Vancouver Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Security and Stability on Korean Peninsula

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Honourable Rex Tillerson, Secretary of State of the United States, today released details of the Vancouver Foreign Ministers’ Meeting on Security and Stability on the Korean peninsula.

The meeting will take place in Vancouver, British Columbia, on January 16, 2018. Media accreditation process will be released soon.

The Minister and Secretary will host foreign ministers from across the globe to demonstrate solidarity in opposition to North Korea’s dangerous and illegal actions and to work together to strengthen diplomatic efforts toward a secure, prosperous and denuclearized Korean peninsula. To this end, foreign ministers will discuss ways to increase the effectiveness of the global sanctions regime in support of a rules-based international order.

  • Canada has fully supported UN efforts on North Korea. Canada co-sponsored UN Security Council (UNSC) Resolution 2321 and welcomed subsequent UNSC resolutions imposing further sanctions against North Korea.
