Canada condemns North Korea’s missile launches

Statements

March 6, 2017 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada

The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today issued the following statement in response to North Korea’s March 6, 2017, missile launches:

“Canada condemns in the strongest terms North Korea’s launches of ballistic missiles, which violated multiple UN Security Council resolutions. Three of these missiles reportedly landed inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

“These launches, which follow similarly provocative actions, including two nuclear tests in 2016, further underscore the threat posed by North Korea to regional and international security and demonstrate the need for a concerted international response.

“Canada calls on North Korea to comply fully with its international obligations, cease its pattern of illegal and destabilizing actions, and immediately and verifiably abandon its ballistic missile program.

“We will continue to work with international partners to constrain North Korea’s destabilizing actions.”
