Ministers at World Economic Forum meeting in Toronto

Today at a World Economic Forum event in Toronto, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Minister of International Trade, and the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development, are promoting Canada’s vision for progressive trade and an innovative, diversified and globally oriented economy.
The ministers will participate in sessions on Canada’s innovation ecosystem and the steps the government is taking to strengthen Canada’s role globally; on China and global changes in economic power; and on digital trade and investment, including in education and infrastructure, to support inclusive growth. They will be joined by Canadian leaders in sectors from business to education as well as by international World Economic Forum representatives.

- According to the World Economic Forum, the fourth industrial revolution is compelling countries and businesses to embrace an innovation agenda.
- Budget 2016 invests up to $800 million over four years to support innovation networks and clusters as part of Canada’s new Innovation Agenda. The budget also provides the Industrial Research Assistance Program with a further $50 million in 2016-2017 to increase the number of companies served by the program.
