Canadian and international scientists collaborate to take action against animal disease and biological threats

On October 31, 2017, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency's (CFIA) Acting Chief Veterinary Officer and Acting Delegate to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), Dr. Jaspinder Komal, chaired a keynote panel discussion on global perspectives and health security at the second World Organisation for Animal Health's Global Conference on Biological Threat Reduction held in Ottawa, Canada.

This year, the theme of OIE's Conference is "Enhancing Health and Security for All" and discussions with more than 350 international experts focused on mechanisms to reduce biological threats, explore potential dual-use technologies, highlight where sectors have contributed globally to biological threat reduction, and examine the recommendations and activities undertaken since the first Global Conference on Biological Threat Reduction in Paris, France, in July 2015.

Conference participants include Official Delegates of OIE member countries, as well as international scientists and organizations, donors and stakeholders from animal health and welfare, public health and security communities.
