Public consultation and call for proposals: 16th Conference of the Parties

The 16th Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) will take place from March 3-15, 2013.

The deadline for submission of proposals from the public was April 14, 2012.  Environment Canada received one recommendation for consideration: to de-list wood bison (Bison bison athabascae) from the CITES Appendices. Wood bison is currently listed on Appendix II of CITES.

The recommendation is currently being shared with federal, provincial and territorial authorities for comment.

A public meeting will be held in fall 2012 to discuss positions on submitted proposals for the 2013 CoP with federal and provincial/territorial authorities.

Please note the Consultation Process web page, which explains the various consultation steps during which the public can contribute and stay informed regarding upcoming Conferences of the Parties.
