Interim government response to review of Canadian Environmental Protection Act: part 4

Part 4. Conclusion

The government is committed to strengthening the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA). It recognizes that although CEPA is fundamentally sound and not in need of significant changes, refinements to the act would strengthen its implementation. The House of Commons Standing Committee report highlighted some areas for improvement and the Senate Committee report will further inform CEPA reform and implementation.

While the government awaits the Senate report, the departments of Health and of the Environment will continue to explore ways to clarify and amend CEPA to increase the government's ability to provide effective environmental protection for all Canadians.
