Share your thoughts: New Substances Notification Regulations (Organisms) consultation
Current status: Closed
Opened on October 13, 2022 and will close to new input on December 5, 2022.
The New Substances Program at Environment and Climate Change Canada is doing a comprehensive review of the 2005 New Substances Notification Regulations (Organisms) and is seeking feedback on your experience with the Regulations.
Background
In 2005, the New Substances Notification Regulations (Organisms) were made to help protect Canadians and the environment. The Regulations allow for the proper assessment of new living organisms prior to their introduction into the Canadian marketplace.
Substantial advances in biotechnology have prompted a review of the Regulations. They will need to be modernized in order to encourage innovation in this rapidly-evolving sector where science and engineering is applied in the use of organisms and/or their parts and products. To support this review, the New Substances Program is seeking input to better understand:
- Applications and uses of new living organisms imported into and/or manufactured in Canada
- Your experience with the Regulations to date
We are seeking input from:
- Industry
- Non-governmental organizations
- Indigenous peoples
- The general public
