Transcript: Starting the LMIA application in the LMIA Online Portal
Let's walk through how to fill out the LMIA application using the LMIA Online Portal. This is part of one of 2 videos showing the application process.
First, make sure that the information in your Job Bank account is accurate.
After logging in, you will arrive at the LMIA Online User Dashboard. Select the employer that you wish to create an LMIA application for. You will be taken to their Employer Dashboard. Once there, you can click on the "Create LMIA Application" link at the top of the page to create an application, or if you would like to save time, you can start a new application by copying a previously submitted one. In this case, choose "Copy LMIA" instead. Make sure that you review the information and make any updates required for this new application.
A few things to note.
While you are filling out an application, you'll be able to see your progress by checking the progress bar. It shows you what percentage of the application has already been filled out.
If you don't have time to finish the application all at once, it's not a problem. The application is automatically saved every time you click on the "next" button to go to the next page. As long as you have started the application and completed the first page of the questionnaire, your information will be there the next time you open the application.
When you reach the "Employer Contact Information for this LMIA application" section, you will see a list of available contacts that corresponds to the information registered in Job Bank. Select the person who will be the principal contact for Service Canada. This person must be the employer or their employee, and will be contacted if Service Canada has any questions or requires any additional information on the LMIA application.
The system will show you a list of program streams that you can apply for. Select the one you want. If you don't know which stream you should pick, it's OK. You can click the "Unsure? Let us guide you" button to answer a series of questions that will help you decide which stream applies to your situation. You can also consult our website for more information.
All work locations must be entered in the LMIA application. This information will be listed on the LMIA decision letter, so make sure it's accurate. You can add multiple work locations to one application, but you must identify one site as the main location.
You may apply for multiple workers under one LMIA application as long as the wage for each worker is the same. You can save time by uploading the information for multiple temporary foreign workers at once by using an Excel document.
Once you have answered all of the questions in the application, you will reach the Document Upload page.
