Skills for Success – Assessment and training tools

An on-line tool for assessing and developing social and emotional skills. The skills assessed include:

A comprehensive set of random questions that can be completed on average in 15-20 minutes for each of the nine skills for success. Results are provided as a star rating link to careers in trade and technology sectors where the star rating represents complexity levels of tasks associated with the particular skills for success being assessed. Most questions will test skill levels from one to three.

Computer Comfort provides a starting point for adults with disabilities who want to develop basic computer skills. It offers one-on-one computer tutoring at no cost. In person or online.

UP Skills for Work helps adult learners develop key employability and life skills through free workshops and downloadable workbooks.

A curriculum guide supporting instructors working with learners who are preparing to enter the workforce. Supporting low-skilled learners, it provides ideas, and guidance for instruction.

Instructional workbooks focusing on the functions and features of workplace documents. Aimed at engaging adults in understanding and using documents they will encounter in most entry-level jobs.

This is a database that adult learners can use to find literacy programs in their community based on their needs. Search for programming such as: reading, ESL, workplace skills training and high school equivalency preparation.

The ABC Skills Hub is an online learning portal that offers asynchronous, at-home delivery of ABC Life Literacy Canada’s many adult literacy programs.

A program to improve the number of training opportunities for adult learners, employees and workplaces on employability and life skills, health literacy and financial literacy.

TOWES is an effective assessment that accurately measures literacy and essential skills needed for safe and productive employment:

• reading
• document use, and
• numeracy

FIMESIP is a knowledge-sharing platform for individuals and organizations from across Canada working in literacy and essential skills (LES) for Indigenous people. This Community of Practice can use FIMESIP to share best practices, learn from each other’s innovations, and support development of the field.

Individual online training to increase the basic digital skills of workers and job seekers. It includes 4 separate workshops (8 hours of online learning in total) and is designed for learners to follow on their own.
