Sectoral Table on the Care Economy

About

Budget 2024 proposed the establishment of a Sectoral Table on the Care Economy (Sectoral Table) that will consult and provide recommendations to the federal government on concrete actions to better support the care economy, including with regard to early learning and child care.

Mandate

The Sectoral Table will provide advice on potential actions to support the care economy, such as:

  • improving the conditions of work for the unpaid and paid care workforce
  • improving supports for care providers and care receivers, and improving the functioning of these interlocking systems of healthcare, home and community care, long-term care, disability care, and child care
  • financing the care economy, where appropriate
  • supporting equity seeking groups, and identifying supports to address regional disparities, within the care economy

Membership

The Sectoral Table consists of up to 16 members, including the Chair. Members were selected based on their knowledge of care economy issues, and their demonstration of leadership within their respective communities and beyond.
