Ten manufacturers expand capabilities to build more homes faster

February 20, 2025 – Toronto, Ontario

Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. The homebuilding and construction sectors are crucial to addressing the need for housing and increasing the number of homes available in southern Ontario. The Government of Canada is investing in local manufacturers who are coming up with Canadian-led solutions to build more homes faster. These efforts help us respond more quickly to housing demands, build homes more efficiently, and make sure Canadians have access to affordable housing. These efforts are closely aligned with the goals of Canada’s Housing Plan, a historic plan to ensure all Canadians have access to housing.

Today, the Honourable Ruby Sahota, Minister of Democratic Institutions and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario), visited Assembly Corp., a Canadian trailblazer in modern, affordable housing solutions.

While there, Minister Sahota announced nearly $19 million of investments to support 10 construction and homebuilding manufacturers: Assembly Corp., CABN, Diamond Manufacturing, Innovatools Inc.Inter Build LimitedMetaLigna Modular Inc., New Earth Solutions Inc., Northland Paving, Trusscore Inc.and UCEL Inc. By expanding production capabilities and adopting new equipment, these manufacturers are improving productivity to create innovative solutions to build more homes for Canadians. The Government of Canada is supporting manufacturers in the homebuilding and construction industries that are creating skilled jobs and finding solutions to modern problems. This is part of our Government’s plan to build more homes, make life more affordable and ensure Canada has a strong economy for generations to come.

  • Established in 2018, Toronto-based Assembly Corp. provides affordable, sustainable and prefabricated wood housing. It recently announced their partnership with Lindbäcks Group in Sweden, one of the world’s leading producers of factory-built housing, to bring cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities to Canada, significantly advancing the country’s industrialized housing sector.  

  • Incorporated in 2021 in Brockville, CABN is a supplier of net-zero prefabricated home kits for use as individual residences, larger housing developments, rentals and hospitality spaces in North America. 

  • Established in 2015 in Markham, Diamond Manufacturing Corporation is a one-stop shop for the design, manufacturing, and installation of steel fire doors and steel frames for commercial and residential buildings. 

  • Established in 2016 in the rural community of Vars, Innovatools Inc. specializes in the design and manufacturing of cutting-edge tools tailored for the construction industry, such as a modular, portable bending brake, enabling customized sheet metal bending directly at construction sites. 

  • Established in 2015 in Bolton, Inter Build Limited is a structural contractor with engineering services specializing in prefabricated cold-formed steel structures, including walls, structural floors and roofs. 

  • Established in 2021 in Arnprior, MetaLigna Modular Inc. is a design-for-manufacture assembly company that designs, fabricates and delivers high-performance cold-formed, light gauge steel prefabricated building products. 

  • Established in 2018 in Guelph, New Earth Solutions Inc. designs and constructs green infrastructure in the construction space, offering functioning living architecture. 

  • Established in 1989 in Scarborough, Northland Paving Ltd. is a trade contracting business specializing in site servicing, excavation, and poured concrete for residential and commercial clients. It is establishing a precast facility in Shelburne, recognizing an increasing demand for advanced construction technology. 

  • Established in 2007 in Palmerston, Trusscore Inc, is an innovation-focused material science company that aims to change residential and commercial construction with products that combine sustainable materials with nanotechnology.

  • Established in 1963 in Uxbridge, family-operated UCEL Inc. provides secure, inventive building hoist solutions for projects across North America. 

  • Since 2015, FedDev Ontario has invested more than $25 million in 14 homebuilding construction related projects, supporting more than 500 jobs.
