Project summary
The Government of Canada is procuring new C6 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG) from Colt Canada. The new C6 is a modern and more reliable weapon that will replace the existing fleet of C6 machine guns, which were procured over 30 years ago.
The C6 GPMG is a critical weapon of the small arms fleet. It is used in a full spectrum of operations by the Canadian Armed Forces. The C6 is mounted on vehicles such as the newly procured Tactical Armoured Patrol Vehicle, and is a core weapon for dismounted operations.

The government announced a contract awarded to Colt Canada to procure 1148 C6 General Purpose Machine Guns. First deliveries of the new C6 are expected in September 2018 with final deliveries anticipated for June 2019.

The contract will result in approximately 13 new jobs and contribute to maintaining approximately 100 jobs at Colt Canada Co., in Kitchener, Ontario.
