Correspondence
Would you like to write a letter or send an item to a cadet? Here is the information you must write on the correspondence when sending it:
- Cadet’s first and last name
- Course title (section number if available)
- Full address of the CTC as indicated in the tab Address, Map
Travel with parents
If the cadet lives in the immediate vicinity of the CTC, they must report to the CTC at the time indicated on the travel plan provided by the corps or squadron. Parents who drive their child directly to the CTC, even if a bus is scheduled, must notify the MCC as soon as possible by sending an e-mail to the address provided above.
Parents will not be reimbursed for travel expenses.
Policy on leave authorization and visitor access
Leave authorizations may be granted on weekends. However, there may be exceptions for certain courses that may have training on these days. Cadets will receive the necessary information about leave authorizations from their staff cadets and/or platoon commander a few days beforehand.
Access to the CTC is controlled, and you will need to present valid government-issued photo ID to gain entry in order to begin leave authorization procedures for a cadet. Visitors will NOT be authorized to move freely around the site. The ID will also be required if you wish to leave with the cadet, and you will have to wait in the staff-designated area on arrival.
Visitors will need to make arrangements in advance to pick up a cadet so that the person is not in training, on duty or in the middle of their working hours.
Use of personal vehicles by staff cadets
Cadet transportation will be organized by the RCSU. However, if you choose another mode of transportation, you must notify the MCC by email two weeks before your departure. No compensation can be claimed. If a cadet wishes to bring their own car to camp, they must park it in the designated area and obtain a parking sticker from the CTC operations section.
The CTC and RCSU(E) take no responsibility for any breakdown, theft or costs related to the use of a personal vehicle. Staff cadets who use their vehicles agree to do so responsibly and to comply with all traffic regulations, rules and restrictions in effect at the CTC and on the military base.
Under no circumstances may a staff cadet have cadets or other staff cadets in their personal vehicle without authorization. Prior authorization is required. Staff cadets will not be authorized to use their personal vehicles during training periods.
Departure from the CTC
Cadets will receive the details about the departure from the CTC a few days before the graduation parade. It will be important at that time to inform the cadet if you wish to leave with them after the parade. The cadet can then pass on the information to their staff cadets/section commander so that their name can be removed from the bus passenger list.
If you plan to have a third party leave with your child (family member, friend, neighbor, relative of another cadet, etc), it is all the more important to communicate this information as soon as possible so that the departure authorization paperwork can be filled out properly. This will avoid complications and delays on the day of departure.
If you know this to be the case even before you arrive at the CTC in early summer, fill in the leave authorization form accordingly to avoid subsequent procedures.
Accommodations
Cadets are housed in soft-walled structures. They have a bunk bed, a locker (one padlock) and a Pelican-style cargo case (two padlocks) to store personal belongings. Ablution facilities are located in the buildings adjacent to cadet accommodation facilities.
All accommodation and ablution facilities are gender-specific.
Cadet training allocation
Payment of the cadet training allocation and reimbursement of certain travel expenses will be made by direct deposit. Cadets can send us the following documents in advance:
- CDT-130 Direct Deposit Authorization Form (You are now leaving Canada.ca. Link accessible only on the Cadet365 SharePoint).
- Void cheque
Documents must be submitted via this secure link on Cadet365:
Cadet 130 – Cadets participating in a summer course (You are now leaving Canada.ca. Link accessible only on the Cadet365 SharePoint)
IMPORTANT: These documents must not be submitted by e-mail.
Cadets who do not have an electronic way of sending documents can bring them in paper format and give them to the Financial Services Officer on arrival at the CTC.
CTC Services
Canteen
CTC t-shirts: It is possible to purchase a generic Cadet Training Centre t-shirt in advance from the CANEX website. (You are now leaving the Government of Canada website)
They will also be on sale in CTC canteens over the summer.
The canteen has a social atmosphere and is a place where cadets can relax after their day’s training. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase. Depending on availability, they can also buy toiletries, wax, souvenirs and more. Prices are reasonable, and proceeds are donated to the CTC for the benefit of cadets. We recommend that they bring a debit card and/or cash for personal expenses.
Services available: Canteen (evenings), WiFi (evenings), and computer lab.
Recreational facilities:
- Volleyball and basketball courts
- Videogames and board games
Moral support
Support services are offered by a chaplain and a youth counsellor. Each section will have at least one meeting with them to ensure that the cadets’ wellbeing is monitored.
Laundry
Washers and dryers are available to all cadets free of charge in the ablution facilities, but cadets must provide their own laundry soap and fabric softener. Staff cadets may choose to do their own laundry in the provided facilities outside of training hours.
Irons and ironing boards are available.
A change of bedding and laundry service is offered to all cadets free of charge at least once a week.
Telephones
Public telephones are available at the CTC to enable cadets to communicate with their families. We recommend that they bring prepaid long-distance calling cards to speed up calls.
Cadets are allowed to bring cell phones, but they may not use them during established activity hours between 0630 hrs and 1900 hrs. In addition, the cellular network service is not reliable everywhere on the CTC, so there may be response delays.
The CTC and RCSU(E) take no responsibility for any breakage, theft or costs related to the inappropriate use of a cell phone. Cadets are expected to respect CTC guidelines, as cell phones can be disruptive when they infringe on the integrity of a person’s right to privacy, interfere with the quality of teaching or learning, or interfere with the efficient operation of the CTC. Although cadets are allowed to bring personal communication devices with them, they must use them responsibly.
Medical services
Primary medical services and emergency dental care are available at the CTC. Opening hours will vary and will be announced at the various CTCs. In addition, if necessary, clients requiring care can be transported to a civilian (community) health centre.
When cadets receive their offer of participation, it is important to declare any change in their medical condition. An incorrect declaration (or omission) could result in a cadet being returned home prior to boarding or upon arrival at the centre, or it could result in a change of course (if spots are available).
We encourage the use of blister packs (Dispill) for prescription drugs. Many pharmacies offer the service free of charge. Over-the-counter medications are permitted, but cadets cannot keep them with them. The form CATO 16-04 Annex C – OTC (Over the Counter)/Prescribed Medication Administration (to be completed prior to the CSTC) must be completed and in the cadet’s possession upon arrival at the centre. Medication must not be expired and must be placed in luggage in such a way that it is easy to access on arrival at the CTC.
Eyeglasses, lenses, contact lenses and frames
These items are considered the cadet's personal items. We strongly recommend that you take out insurance to cover the repair or replacement of your glasses. In the event of breakage while at the CTC, the staff will coordinate a replacement with the cadet’s parents and the cost will be covered by the parents.
Course Specific
Please note that violent, racist, sexist, alcohol-related, drug-related or offensive symbols are not permitted on civilian clothing.
