Caregiver assistance benefit

If you become ill or injured as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces on operations in Afghanistan, and need childcare or other caregiver for your child or children, you may be reimbursed for the cost of a caregiver.
Who is eligible
You may be eligible if you meet all of the following requirements:
- your illness or injury is from operations in Afghanistan
- you have a dependent child physically living with you
- a Canadian Forces Health Care Provider assesses that the injury or illness prevents you from taking care of your child or children the way that you did before
- you’re not receiving pay and allowances from the:
- Special Force
- Regular Force
- Reserve Force on Class B or C
What you need before you start
Visit your nearest Canadian Forces Health Services Clinic for a referral from a Canadian Forces health care provider. Once you receive a referral, contact your local transition centre.
