Participants
All members of the Defence Team have been directed by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) and the Deputy Minister (DM) to participate in the Conversations on Defence Ethics (CODE), a professional development training on ethics. The CODE was developed by the Defence Ethics Programme (DEP) and will be delivered by the Level One organizations across the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) by March 31, 2022.
The CODE is an opportunity to engage with peers in open discussions on current issues related to ethics. The aim is to better understand and achieve objectives on Defence ethics.
Participants should be familiar with the DND and CF Code of Values and Ethics, the Value and Ethics Code for the Public Sector (for DND employees) and Duty with Honour, the Professional of Arms in Canada (for CAF members), and are encouraged to have successfully completed the Introduction to Defence Ethics course on the Defence Learning Network prior to participating in the CODE. Everyone is encouraged to read a collection of short essays on ethical concepts to help augment and solidify their understanding of the Defence Team’s first ethical principle, Respect the dignity of all persons.
The Participants Guide includes a bank of ethical scenarios that address a range of current issues in DND/CAF. Each facilitator will choose which scenarios will be discussed during their CODE facilitated discussion based on the ethical issues and potential impacts to their units, sections and/or teams.
Your participation and engagement are vital to the success of the CODE and every voice should be heard.
