Office of Disability Management
The Office of Disability Management (ODM) provides collaborative and inclusive services that support Department of National Defence (DND) public service employees and their managers with disability-related matters due to illness, impairment and injury.
Services provided
Claims Management Advisors and Disability Management Advisors provide personalized case management services, guidance and tools to support employees and their managers. Each service follows a unique process.
ODM’s services include support for:
- Injury on duty (occupational injury, illness, or impairment)
- Non-occupational injury, illness or impairment
- Stay at work and return to work
- Extended sick leave (more than 10 days)
- Medical accommodation (duty to accommodate)
- Medical retirement
- Government of Canada Accessibility Passport
ODM Advisors may liaise with worker’s compensation boards, disability insurance companies, Health Canada, and human resource professionals.
Services are provided in the language of your choice.

Your role as an employee
- As soon as possible after an injury or illness:
- Obtain a physician's report
- Submit a Worker’s Report of Injury. Inform your manager about:
- Paid or unpaid sick leave of more than 10 consecutive working days
- Return to work after an absence due to injury, illness or impairment
- Medical accommodation requirements
- Injury on duty
- Non-occupational injury, illness or impairment
- Any changes to your pay or employment
- the services you are receiving from the Office of Disability Management
Your role as a manager
- Foster regular, open and transparent communication with your employee and your ODM Advisor
- Through the ODM, submit an Employer’s Report of Injury within 3 days of an incident
- Inform your ODM Advisor of employees’:
- Paid or unpaid sick leave of more than 10 consecutive working days
- Return to work after an absence due to injury, illness or impairment
- Medical accommodation requests
- Injury on duty
- Non-occupational absence
- About any changes in the employee’s pay or employment
