Chief of the Defence Staff Change of Command Ceremony

July 11, 2024 – Ottawa – Department of National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces

Media are invited to attend the Canadian Armed Forces Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) change of command ceremony between General Wayne Eyre and the incoming CDS General Jennie Carignan. Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will preside over the ceremony.

When: July 18, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. (See timings below)

Where: Canadian War Museum – 1 Vimy Place, Ottawa

What: Media are invited to attend the change of command ceremony and participate in a media scrum with General Carignan immediately following the ceremony.

Note to editors:

Interested media must register their attendance, providing their name and the media outlet they represent. Media representatives who are not members of the Parliamentary Press Gallery must apply for Change of Command accreditation. To register or request accreditation, please contact Philippe Perrier, Coordinator, Press Event Support, Parliamentary Press Gallery, at philippe.perrier@parl.gc.ca. The deadline for registration is 5:00 PM EST on Tuesday, July 16, 2024.

Media planning to livestream or requiring time to set up equipment should arrive at the Group Entrance of the Canadian War Museum by 8:00 AM on Thursday, July 18, 2024, to register their presence. All other media should arrive by 9:00 AM to register and will be escorted to the media site to cover the event. A media scrum with General Carignan is planned immediately following the ceremony. Please note that accredited media will not have unrestricted movement and must be escorted at all times.

Media interested only in covering the media scrum with General Carignan should arrive at the Group Entrance of the Canadian War Museum by 11:00 AM EST on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
