Release of Canada’s Defence Policy Update

On April 8, 2024, the Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, will release Canada’s Defence Policy Update.

Media are invited to attend a technical briefing by senior government officials from the Department of National Defence and Canadian Armed Forces, which is not for attribution and not for broadcast – and its contents will be under embargo until the beginning of the press conference.

Following the briefing, the Honourable Bill Blair, Minister of National Defence, and the Honourable Ginette Petitpas Taylor, Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence will hold a press conference at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Trenton.

For the technical briefing at 9:00 a.m. EDT, accredited media can register by contacting the Media Relations Office at mlo-blm@forces.gc.ca. Accredited media who register for the technical briefing will be offered reading materials under embargo and receive a link to access the briefing on Zoom.

For the 11:30 a.m. EDT press conference at CFB Trenton, accredited media can register to attend in person by contacting the Media Relations Office at mlo-blm@forces.gc.ca. Media attending in person will also have access to reading materials under embargo in a reading room, and have access to facilities to join the virtual technical briefing at 9:00 a.m.

We are offering a round-trip flight option from Ottawa to CFB Trenton for accredited media on a Royal Canadian Air Force CC-130 Hercules. The flight will depart from Ottawa at 7:15 a.m EDT on Monday, April 8. Full logistical details for this option will be provided upon registration. Seats on the aircraft are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Media are required to register for the flight no later than 5:00 p.m. EDT today, by contacting the Media Relations Office at mlo-blm@forces.gc.ca.
